Why is beef so expensive right now? Here's the honest answer from a farmer actually in the market.

We're in the strangest beef market in memory. Grocery store steak just hit its highest price on record, up 16% in a single year. The U.S. cattle herd is the smallest it's been in 75 years. There are cow-flesh-eating flies invading. And nobody, including the people who run the system, has any idea what a cow will cost by October.

Btw, I have no idea how grocery store beef prices have not gone up more. The price for 3 day old calves is up to $1,800 each in some places. That's how much a FINISHED beef animal cost just a few years ago.
