The Investment Case for Buying Beef in Bulk

A customer named Ken recently sent us a note that's been rattling around in my head. He called buying beef in bulk from us "hands down one of the best investments I have ever made."

Investment. Not purchase. Not subscription. Investment.

That mindset is the difference between people who love their beef share and people who don't quite get it. So I want to riff on Ken's words for a minute, because he hit on something most of our happiest customers eventually figure out on their own.

"Hands down one of the best investments I have ever made. Absolutely delicious mouth watering beeeef. Me and the family appreciate all of the team at the farm. I have no complaints whatsoever the whole process was painless. No pressure no rush. You and the team definitely got it down. I hope you have continue success. I will most certainly be buying again."

A couple things I want to dig into here.

"Hands down one of the best investments I have ever made"

This is the mindset that our best and happiest customers have. A beef share is not just a 1:1 replacement of the beef you're buying at the store or the takeout meals you're ordering.

It's also an investment.

An investment in your health, in teaching lifelong healthy habits for your kids, in a positive form of agriculture for our country, and in peace of mind and time saved by having nourishing beef on hand 24/7/365. (There's a name for that last part, by the way: larder-maxxing.)

Oh and with the prices at the store these days, many folks find that they save serious money. But again, the quality isn't even vaguely comparable.

Is bulk beef worth it? The actual math

Buying beef in bulk only really makes sense if you understand what you're getting. A Half Share is about 200 lbs of beef for $3,570 (and the chest freezer comes free). That's roughly $17.85 a pound, all in, for a mix of dry-aged steaks, roasts, brisket, short ribs, ground beef, and so on. (For the full price breakdown, see how much does a half cow cost. Compare that to grocery-store grass-fed ribeye at $30+ a pound (which, by the way, is often watered down by the time it reaches you) and the math starts to work itself out. The investment is the up-front commitment. The return is 6 to 12 months of better beef at a lower per-pound cost.

"No pressure no rush" / "I will most certainly be buying again"

These go hand in hand, which is a big part of our "master plan for moderate local beef domination."

We love talking about our beef. And aren't shy about our emails, reels, etc.

But we also know a beef share is a big investment, and our primary goal is to help you make the best decision for YOUR situation.

But also because we aren't in the "sling half a cow today" business. We're in the "build an army of lifelong raving fans" business.

We yearn for the day our roster of customers is maxed out and we just fill their freezers up year after year after year.

Plus, the truth is, we don't NEED to pressure anyone.....

Because we've got the reality of our business working for us. The limited supply is real. The waitlist is real. The insane quality is real. The hundreds of happy customers coming back every year are real.

So we get the luxury of being pretty chill.....
